Mangaluru: A youth was seriously injured after being attacked with deadly weapons by unidentified assailants near Lalbagh in Mangaluru on Saturday. The incident, which occurred in a busy area of the city, is being treated as an alleged attempt to murder.
The injured has been identified as Vikhyath alias Vicky Bappal. He was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Attack near Lalbagh
According to preliminary information, Vikhyath was travelling on a two-wheeler when he was suddenly attacked by unidentified persons.
The assailants, who are believed to have arrived on a motorcycle, allegedly attacked him from behind using deadly weapons before fleeing the scene.
The incident took place in a crowded locality, leaving passers-by shocked.
Injured shifted to hospital
Following the attack, local residents and bystanders rushed to help the injured youth and shifted him to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Doctors are treating his injuries, and his condition is being monitored. Further details regarding the extent of his injuries are awaited.
Police begin investigation
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Barke Police Station.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the attackers. Officers are expected to examine CCTV footage from the area and record statements from witnesses to ascertain the motive behind the assault.
