Mangaluru: The Philosophical English Academy of St Joseph’s Institute of Philosophy (SJIP), in collaboration with the Chair in Christianity at Mangalore University (CIC, MU), hosted an insightful lecture titled ‘The Role of Leaders in Shaping Skilled Youth’ on January 22 at St Joseph’s Seminary. Dr. Alwyn Misquith, assistant professor at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), served as the keynote speaker, with Fr. Stany Pinto, parish priest of Holy Spirit Parish, Mukka, moderating the session.

The event opened with a hymn to the Holy Spirit, followed by the recitation of the Indian Constitution’s preamble. Br. Aashton D’Souza, the academy’s student coordinator, warmly welcomed the guests and attendees.

Dr. Alwyn delivered a dynamic session, addressing challenges faced by youth globally and locally. He emphasized the importance of nurturing skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving, and life management. Highlighting the need for empathetic and proactive leadership, he urged leaders to provide career guidance, internships, and opportunities for public service roles.

Participants were encouraged to build trust with youth, empowering them with skills in conflict resolution, discernment, and compassion. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, followed by closing remarks from Fr. Stany Pinto.

In addition to the lecture, philosophy students presented research papers on societal issues, including gender identity, Indian agriculture, judicial efficiency, healthcare, and the National Education Policy (NEP). This monthly initiative fosters critical thinking and leadership skills, reflecting SJIP’s commitment to preparing students for contemporary challenges.
