Mangaluru: The body of a young man was found on a railway track at Pacchanady in Mangaluru on Thursday, February 5, triggering concern among local residents and prompting a police investigation. Authorities have identified the deceased as Babith, a resident of Pacchanady Bandale, and said the circumstances surrounding his death appear suspicious.
Railway and local police teams visited the spot soon after receiving information and have begun a detailed inquiry to determine the exact cause of death. A bag and other personal belongings recovered from the scene are being examined as part of the investigation.
Body noticed by locals near track
Police sources said the body was noticed on the railway track stretch near Pacchanady during the morning hours. Passersby and nearby residents alerted authorities after spotting the youth lying motionless on the track.
Police personnel rushed to the location and secured the area to prevent disturbance of potential evidence. Initial inspection confirmed that the youth was dead when officials reached the spot.
The identity of the deceased was established as Babith from Pacchanady Bandale based on documents and local verification. His family members were informed soon after preliminary identification.
Personal belongings recovered at scene
Investigators said a bag and some personal items believed to belong to the deceased were found near the body. These materials have been taken into custody for examination and documentation.
Officers said the contents of the bag and other belongings could provide important clues about the victim’s movements before death. Mobile phone records, if available, and other identifiers will be analysed to reconstruct the timeline leading up to the incident.
Police are also checking whether there were any eyewitnesses who saw the youth near the railway track shortly before the incident.
