Belagavi: Unfaithfulness in marriage is not to be encouraged, but not to the extent that we see in the recent Belagavi case where Toufiq Shouqat was found to have killed his wife, along with the man she found him with.
The incident is indeed an unfortunate end to what would have begun as a fairly happy marriage months ago. Was it a mistake that the couple went on to hire a cab to visit a dargah?
Or was the mistake on the part of the cab driver that Hina, Toufiq’s wife soon fell in love with. Having put aside all her marriage vows, the new bride simply chose to give in to her rush of new emotions, eloping with the man she courted to begin a new life at his farmhouse in Kokatnur.
Reading up till now, one can only sympathize with 24 year old Toufiq, who simply gave way to his rush of emotions, entering the couple’s home with a sharp nudged weapon, to end the lives of both Hina and Yasin.
Perhaps we can say that the unfortunate victims are the parents of the new bride, who only did their part in rushing to rescue their young daughter, to have an enraged Toufiq attack them both.
While the old couple now get treated at a hospital in Miraj, there’s little they can look forward to, what with the sad demise of a daughter, and the police still on the manhunt, to provide justice that they would surely demand against the accused.
