Date : 19-04-2024

Kohima: Nagaland’s single-phase Lok Sabha voting witnessed six districts with zero turnout as residents abstained, supporting the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation’s (ENPO) call for a separate state.

Over 4 lakh voters in Longleng, Kiphire, Mon, Tuensang, Shamatore, and Noklak remained indoors in solidarity with ENPO’s demand for Frontier Nagaland, citing neglect since 2010.

The ENPO, representing seven tribal bodies, declared a “public emergency” in these districts, forbidding political campaigning. Despite 738 polling stations set up, no voting occurred by 1 pm. ENPO’s region holds 20 seats in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly, emphasizing its political significance within the state.
