Chennai: In a chilling incident that unfolded in Chennai, a 20-year-old nursing student, Fousia, was discovered dead in a hotel room. The gruesome crime took a macabre turn when her boyfriend, Ashiq, also in his 20s, posted a photograph of her lifeless body as his WhatsApp status. The shocking revelation was made by mutual friends who promptly alerted the Chromepet police, leading to a swift investigation.
The police conducted a thorough search of lodges and hotels in the Chromepet area, eventually locating the crime scene at a hotel on CLC Works Road. Preliminary findings from the investigation reveal a distressing narrative. Fousia and Ashiq, both hailing from Kollam, Kerala, had checked into the hotel around 10:30 am. However, their day took a horrifying turn as an argument erupted between the couple. Fousia confronted Ashiq about images on his phone featuring him and another woman. The altercation escalated, resulting in Ashiq physically assaulting Fousia and ultimately strangling her to death with his T-shirt.
The heinous act took an even darker turn when Ashiq chose to share a photo of Fousia’s lifeless body as his WhatsApp status. Friends from the victim’s college, who also had Ashiq’s contact information, stumbled upon the shocking image at approximately 5:00 pm. Swiftly recognizing the gravity of the situation, they promptly informed the police.
According to reports, the relationship between Fousia and Ashiq spanned five years, marked by a clandestine marriage. The couple had a child during their late teens, a child subsequently given up for adoption in Chikamagalur. Fousia, a second-year nursing student at a Chromepet college, had not attended classes for the past three days, raising concerns among her peers and faculty.
The couple had a tumultuous history, parting ways two years ago due to revelations of Ashiq’s involvement with multiple other women. Fousia, distressed by the situation, filed a complaint with the Kerala police, resulting in Ashiq being booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and subsequent imprisonment. However, after his release, Ashiq expressed remorse, and the couple reconciled. Post-reconciliation, Ashiq was a frequent visitor to Fousia’s residence.
Fousia’s lifeless body has been sent for postmortem examination at the Chromepet government hospital, as authorities delve into the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement seeks to unravel the layers of a relationship that culminated in a horrifying crime.
