Bengaluru: The city witnessed a horrific murder on Saturday evening when a 35-year-old cab driver stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in public after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The 42-year-old woman, brutally stabbed to death, has been identified as Farida Khatun, originally from West Bengal, working in a local spa. The incident occurred in the Shalini Ground area.

Police stated that Girish had converted to Islam some 13 years ago due to difficulties in finding a match for his sister, but he reverted to his original name while still adhering to some Islamic practices. The accused, Girish, surrendered himself to the police sometime after committing the crime. The couple had been in a relationship for 10 years, said DCP (South) Shivaprakash Devaraju.

According to the police, the woman returned to Bengaluru with her daughter on March 26 to celebrate the birth of her lover, Girish, on March 29. She wanted to celebrate his birthday with him and also search for a college for one of her daughters.

On the day of the incident, Girish, Farida, and her daughter went for shopping and lunch before returning to the hotel. That evening, while at Shalini Grounds, Girish proposed to Farida, and when she declined, he, according to the DCP south, faced rejection and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death on the spot.

The DCP stated that an FIR has been registered under IPC section 302, and the police are taking statements from the people present at the spot when the incident happened. He added that they are probing it from all angles to find any other motives for this crime.
