Mangaluru: Founder of Mangaluru’s Ideal Ice Cream brand way S. Prabhakar Kamath passed away on the morning of Saturday November 6 at 3.30 am.
Fondly called as ‘Pabba Maam,’ Kamath began his business journey in 1970s. Due to fluctuation in business, he decided to open an ice cream parlour, which would be in high demand throughout the year.
He taught himself how to make ice cream by doing experiments at home with neighbours serving as his critics. He started Ideal’s Parlour on Market Road on May 1, 1975, with 14 flavours. In the decades afterwards, the brand Ideal ice cream has become Mangaluru’s best tourist attraction, with the flavours and taste making them a favourite not just among Mangalureans but also people all over the world.
BJP MLA of Mangaluru South Vedavyas Kamath in his Facebook account noted that, “If Mangaluru is known for Ice creams today it is because of Shri Prabhakar Kamath (PABBA MAAM). It is really unfortunate to inform that he passed away today early morning and left to his heavenly abode. May His Soul Attain Sadgathi.”
According to the family sources, funeral details will be informed later on Saturday.
