Bengaluru: Kannada writer and poet Chennaveera Kanavi passed away on Wednesday February February 16. The 93-year-old doyen had been admitted to the SDM Medical College Hospital in Dharwad where he breathed his last.
He was often referred to as Samanvaya Kavi and recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry work Jeeva Dhwani in 1981. He has more than 25 collections of poems and as many as 28 books to his credit. He worked as a publication wing Director of the Karnataka University from 1956 to 1983.
The poet-writer was born in Hombal of Gadaga District on June 28, 1928 to Sakkareppa and Parvathamma. He is survived by a daughter and four sons. His wife, Shantadevi passed away in 2021. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has expressed his condolences.
