Veteran politician RL Jalappa passes away

Kolar: Veteran politician and Former Union Minister R. L. Jalappa passed away on Friday December 17. He was admitted to Jalappa Hospital here on December 10.

He was suffering from health complications for past several days and receiving treatment in the ICU. He breathed his last failing to respond to the treatment.

In his political career, he was actively associated with the Congress till 1979 after which he started new political party, Karnataka Kranti Ranga with D. Devaraj Urs, which was later merged under the Janata Party. Later, he moved to Janata Dal, and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Chikkaballapura. Following this he was made the Union Textile Minister, the post from which he resigned in 1998 to rejoin Congress.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has condoled Jalappa’s death.
