HCMCT Manipal Hospital, Dwarka has Health Camp for kids with Down Syndrome

Delhi NCR : Delhi-based HCMCT Manipal Hospital, in association with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) West Delhi Branch and Down Syndrome Parent Society (DSPS), organized a special health camp today for children with Down syndrome.

More than 50 parents enrolled their children with Down syndrome in the multispecialty health camp. The specialists who participated included paediatricians, paediatric cardiologists, paediatric gastroenterologists, paediatric endocrinologists, developmental paediatricians, paediatric neurologists, paediatric orthopaedics, ENT, lactation expert, ophthalmologist, dentists, psychologists, gynaecologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists and speech therapists. It was a first of its kind camp where so many specialists came together to provide their services for these children.

While conducting the check-ups, all safety norms were followed, which included the following social distancing norms, use of masks and hand sanitiser by all hospital staff, nurses, and doctors. During the camp, the hospital also arranged for breakfast and lunch for the attendees.

Addressing the parents during the health camp, Dr Vikas Taneja, HOD Paediatrics at HCMCT Manipal Hospital said, “Down syndrome (DS), is the commonest chromosomal disorder affecting all races and both sexes, with an incidence of 1 in every 1000 live births. Such children need multi-disciplinary care and Down Syndrome Parent Society (DSPS), Delhi has been a wonderful support group working with parents of such children with pride and dignity. Dr Devender Gaba, President IAP West Delhi branch and Mrs Rashmi Joshi, President DSPS gave their insightful thoughts and motivated the parents during the camp. IAP & DSPS resolved to work more closely for the betterment of such children. “

The doctors gave adequate time to all the parents and children. They patiently listened to all their concerns and provided the best guidance. The parents were really happy and thankful for such services being provided by HCMCT Manipal hospital under one roof. The children played around and enjoyed food, specially prepared according to them.  The health camp was a huge success.
