Mysuru: “Students and the general public should be concerned about the surrounding environment and forests,” said Hemant Kumar Gowda, president of Exhibition Authority. We should join hands for the protections of forests and inculcate in everyone the passion of planting saplings, he said.
He was speaking at the World Awareness Program held on account of World Forest Day, at the exhibition premises. The program was inaugurated by planting a variety of saplings.
“We must prevent forest fires which is causing the destruction of birds and animals in the here. This leads to deforestation which can have a profound impact on the environment and on global warming,” he added.
The role that students and young people play in the protection of the environment is so great that this responsibility is considered as the protection of country, he stated. “Due to man’s greed, many environmental problems have been caused. Sustainable use of resources is the need of the hour. Selfish attitude of humans is the biggest threat to the ecological diversity. We can save our country only if we grow abundant trees in our surroundings. The forests have a lot to offer to mankind, and it is our duty to recognise and protect it” he said.
