Mysuru: Social activist Snehamayi Krishna has alleged that some police personnel in Mysuru are themselves indulging in criminal activities and demanded strict action against erring officers.
In a social media post, Krishna claimed that the involvement of police personnel in unlawful activities is increasing and questioned the accountability mechanisms within the department.
Allegations against traffic constable
Krishna referred to a specific incident involving a traffic constable identified as Beerappa. According to the activist, the constable allegedly assaulted an individual, snatched a mobile phone and destroyed evidence stored on the device.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and there has been no official response from the police department regarding the claims.
Krishna further stated that a complaint in connection with the alleged incident was filed by K Srinivas at the Krishnaraja Police Station in Mysuru on June 18.
According to him, instead of registering a First Information Report (FIR), the police issued a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) receipt and were allegedly attempting to suppress the matter.
Questions over police accountability
In his social media post, the activist questioned whether police personnel accused of wrongdoing were being treated differently from ordinary citizens.
He asked whether the state Home Minister would seek details regarding the number of police officers and staff members allegedly involved in criminal activities and whether cases had been registered against them.
Krishna also questioned whether police personnel who commit offences are being placed above the law and called for greater transparency and accountability within the department.
“The involvement of the police themselves — who are supposed to prevent criminal activities — in criminal acts is increasing day by day,” he stated in his post.
Demand for action against erring officers
The activist urged the authorities to take appropriate action against any police personnel found guilty of misconduct and to ensure that members of the force do not misuse their positions.
He also called upon the government to take measures to prevent officers and staff from engaging in unlawful activities and to strengthen mechanisms for addressing complaints against police personnel.
The allegations have sparked discussion on social media, with several users demanding a fair inquiry into the matter.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Mysuru police regarding the allegations made by the activist, and it remains to be seen whether further action or an inquiry will be initiated into the claims.
