Mysuru: A 43-year-old software professional from Bengaluru died after being struck by lightning near Yelwal in Mysuru district on Monday evening. The incident occurred while he had stopped with his family near their property, leading to a tragic turn of events that claimed his life despite immediate efforts to provide medical assistance.

The deceased has been identified as Hosoklu Roshan Balakrishna, originally from Kodagu district. His family currently resides in an apartment in Jalahalli in Bengaluru.

Incident occurred near family property

According to police, Roshan was employed with an information technology company and was also involved in managing the family’s coffee plantation activities.

The incident reportedly took place around 5 pm when Roshan and his family had stopped near Yelwal to visit their property.

Police said Roshan had gone near a mango tree to pluck fruits when lightning suddenly struck him. The impact caused him to collapse at the spot.

The sudden incident left family members shocked, and they immediately rushed to assist him before arranging medical help.

Shifted to hospital but declared dead

Family members initially shifted Roshan to a nearby NG Hospital for treatment following the incident.

He was later taken to the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research for further medical care.

However, doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police stated that further procedures were carried out following the incident.

Lightning incidents highlight monsoon risks

The incident comes amid changing weather patterns and increased thunderstorm activity in several parts of Karnataka.

Lightning strikes remain a serious hazard during monsoon and pre-monsoon conditions, particularly in open spaces, agricultural lands and areas with isolated trees.

Safety experts often advise people to avoid standing under trees or remaining in open fields during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning strikes.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with severe weather conditions and the need for precautionary measures during periods of thunderstorms.

Family mourns loss

Roshan is survived by his wife and a son studying in Class 9.

The sudden death has left family members and relatives in grief.

Authorities are continuing with formal procedures related to the case.
