Mysuru: BJP Mysuru city unit president L Nagendra on Tuesday criticised the Congress-led Karnataka government over the ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ organised in Tumakuru, alleging that the state administration had failed to achieve significant development during its tenure due to internal political struggles and leadership issues within the ruling party.
Addressing a press conference in Mysuru, Nagendra alleged that disagreements among Congress leaders over the Chief Minister’s position and ministerial posts had affected governance and development activities in the state over the past three years.
The remarks came as political parties continued exchanging criticism over governance, developmental achievements and future electoral prospects in Karnataka.
BJP questions government’s development claims
During the press conference, Nagendra challenged Congress leaders to release a detailed list of achievements made during their tenure so far.
He questioned the ruling party’s claims regarding governance and alleged that the government had not delivered substantial developmental progress across the state.
According to him, the administration’s focus had shifted towards internal political issues instead of prioritising public welfare and infrastructure development.
Political parties in Karnataka have increasingly been highlighting governance and development records as they prepare for future electoral contests.
Nagendra also referred to recent Assembly election results in different states and alleged that Congress had suffered setbacks in several regions.
He claimed that continued dissatisfaction over development issues could impact the party’s electoral prospects in Karnataka in future elections.
Allegations made regarding state finances
The BJP leader also criticised the state government over financial matters and alleged that increasing borrowings had become a matter of concern.
According to Nagendra, a large portion of the state’s borrowings was being used to support various government guarantee schemes.
He further alleged that increasing loan burdens and interest payments could affect financial management and development expenditure.
The Congress government has maintained that welfare guarantee schemes are aimed at supporting citizens and addressing socio-economic concerns.
Discussions regarding public spending, welfare programmes and financial priorities have remained part of ongoing political debates in the state.
Nagendra additionally accused Congress leaders of corruption during the press interaction.
No response from the state government regarding the allegations was immediately available.
Comparison drawn with development in other regions
During the media interaction, Nagendra drew comparisons with development works undertaken in other regions of Karnataka.
Referring to development initiatives carried out in Shivamogga and Shikaripura under former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, he claimed those areas had witnessed significant progress.
He further alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had not ensured adequate development in Mysuru despite representing the region politically.
Development projects and infrastructure expansion frequently remain major subjects of political discussion, particularly when parties compare governance records and regional progress.
Political leaders often highlight district-level achievements and local development indicators while presenting their positions before the public.
BJP leaders raise concerns over hospital land issue
During the same press conference, BJP Mysuru city spokesperson Mohan also criticised the state government over the reported uncertainty regarding land allocation for a proposed NIMHANS model hospital.
He alleged that confusion surrounding the project had raised concerns regarding its implementation and progress.
The matter was also discussed as part of broader criticism regarding development planning and administrative decisions.
BJP Mysuru rural spokesperson Vasanthkumar, former mayor Sandesh Swamy and Mysuru city media coordinator Mahesh Raje Urs were also present at the press conference.
The latest political exchange reflects continuing debates between the ruling party and opposition leaders on governance, infrastructure and policy implementation in Karnataka.
