Mysuru: Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Chairman Ramesh Bandisiddegowda on Friday urged newly appointed junior powermen to discharge their duties with honesty, efficiency and a strong sense of public responsibility.

He was speaking after distributing recruitment letters and conducting counselling sessions for the new recruits at the CESC headquarters in Vijayanagar, Mysuru. The event marked the formal induction of the candidates selected through a state-level recruitment process.

Recruitment done on merit: Chairman

Mysuru witnessed a formal and encouraging atmosphere at the headquarters as the chairman congratulated the appointees and reminded them of the responsibilities that come with a government job.

Bandisiddegowda said the government had conducted the recruitment process with complete transparency and strictly on a merit basis. He noted that candidates were selected after undergoing all mandatory tests, including written examinations, physical tests and endurance tests.

“Getting a government job is not easy nowadays. You have secured this opportunity through merit and hard work. Make sure you give your best service to the public and do not give room for complaints,” he told the new powermen.

He emphasised that electricity supply is an essential public service and that the performance of junior powermen directly impacts consumers, including farmers and rural households. He advised them to attend to complaints promptly and ensure that members of the public are not harassed while seeking services.

Stress on safety and professionalism

Calling the job of a powerman both technical and risky, the chairman cautioned the recruits to strictly follow safety protocols while handling electrical lines and equipment.

“This is a risky job. Take all precautions for your own safety and for the safety of the public. Do not take shortcuts while working on live lines or during maintenance,” he said.

He also encouraged the new staff to use the training period effectively and seek guidance from senior officers whenever in doubt. “Clarify your doubts with seniors during training. Learning from experienced staff will help you avoid mistakes in the field,” he added.

Over 3,000 junior powermen recruited

CESC Managing Director KM Munigopala Raju said that the government had recruited more than 3,000 junior powermen across the state through a transparent and merit-based selection process.

He cautioned job aspirants and the public against falling prey to middlemen who falsely promise government jobs in exchange for money. “The recruitment was conducted fairly. No one needs to approach middlemen or pay bribes for such posts. Selection is purely on merit,” he said.

His remarks come amid recurring concerns about fraudulent recruitment claims and the exploitation of job seekers.

Public service at the core

Senior officials, including Chief Finance Officer B Renuka and senior officers B R Lingarajamma and B R Roopa, were present during the programme.

The induction of a large number of junior powermen is expected to strengthen field-level operations, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas under CESC’s jurisdiction. With increasing demand for uninterrupted power supply and rapid infrastructure expansion, the utility has been under pressure to improve response time and service delivery.

Officials expressed confidence that the new recruits would contribute to enhancing efficiency in maintenance, breakdown management and consumer grievance redressal.

As the newly appointed powermen begin their careers, CESC leadership reiterated that professionalism, integrity and safety must remain at the core of their service. The utility’s ability to deliver reliable electricity, they noted, depends not only on infrastructure but also on the dedication of its frontline workforce.
