Mysuru: The Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) continues to focus on technology-driven innovations aimed at addressing societal and industrial needs, Director Giridhar Parvatam said during the National Technology Day celebration organised at the institute recently.
Speaking at the programme held under the theme “Responsible Innovation for Inclusive Growth”, Giridhar Parvatam highlighted the institute’s ongoing efforts to support industries through research, technology transfer and innovation initiatives. He said such programmes have contributed significantly to industrial development and strengthened collaborations between scientific institutions and industry stakeholders.
The event also highlighted CFTRI’s role in promoting research and facilitating technology-based solutions for sectors linked to food science and related industries.
Technology transfer playing key role in industrial support
Addressing the gathering, Giridhar Parvatam said CFTRI continues to provide support to industries by understanding their requirements and facilitating technology transfer initiatives.
He described technology transfer as an important transformational process capable of helping industries improve productivity and adopt advanced methods and systems.
According to him, research institutions and industries must work closely to ensure that scientific advancements are translated into practical applications capable of creating broader economic and social benefits.
Technology transfer generally involves sharing scientific knowledge, innovations and processes developed in research institutions with industries for commercial and practical implementation.
Officials believe such collaborations help industries strengthen competitiveness while also improving product quality and operational efficiency.
Contributions of research teams recognised
Giridhar Parvatam also appreciated the efforts of various CFTRI teams involved in developing technologies that have benefited the food industry.
He stated that scientific teams at the institute have contributed to creating innovations that support industrial growth and address challenges faced by food processing and related sectors.
Research and development activities at institutions such as CFTRI often focus on improving food technology, product development, processing systems and sustainability measures.
The institute has been involved in multiple technology initiatives designed to support both large-scale industries and smaller enterprises.
Officials noted that innovation in food science has become increasingly important in addressing changing consumer demands and improving food systems.
Focus on revisiting unfinished research projects
During his address, Giridhar Parvatam stressed the importance of revisiting research and development projects that had not progressed beyond certain Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs).
He said some research initiatives that remained incomplete could potentially open new opportunities and create fresh directions for innovation if examined again.
Technology Readiness Levels are commonly used to assess the maturity and practical applicability of research projects and technological developments.
According to him, some earlier projects may still possess significant potential and could contribute to future breakthroughs if given renewed attention.
He emphasised the need to prioritise promising projects and ensure that valuable research outcomes do not remain underutilised.
Industry representatives highlight CFTRI’s impact
Managing Director of CEC Flavours and Fragrances A. Apparao also spoke during the event and highlighted the institute’s contribution towards industrial and professional development.
He said the short-term courses offered by CFTRI had played a major role in shaping the professional journeys of many students and industry participants.
Skill development programmes and industry-oriented training initiatives are often considered important in preparing professionals with specialised knowledge and practical exposure.
The programme also witnessed the exchange of several licence agreements and distribution of certificates of appreciation to members of science and technology teams.
Dr Aashitosh A. Inamdar, Scientist-G and Head of TTBD, presented an overview of CFTRI’s industry engagement initiatives undertaken during 2025–26.
The event concluded with discussions focusing on strengthening collaboration between scientific institutions and industries while promoting responsible innovation aimed at inclusive growth and long-term development.
