Tensions flared at the Hootagalli Municipal Council office when two individuals, identified as Parthasarathy and Lavish, allegedly attempted to assault a revenue officer and vandalized the office over a site measurement dispute. A case has been registered against them at the Vijayanagara Police Station following a complaint by Revenue Officer Nanjundaswamy.
The incident stems from a complaint filed by a woman regarding the unauthorized construction of a shed on public land. She had requested the Municipal Corporation to take action against the encroachment and demanded a formal land measurement.
Parthasarathy, reportedly connected to the disputed site, arrived at the office demanding immediate measurement. In a sudden outburst, he allegedly threatened and attempted to physically attack Officer Nanjundaswamy in front of other staff. The officer was shielded by his colleagues, but the situation escalated further.
In a fit of rage, Parthasarathy and Lavish allegedly smashed the office’s glass panels and created a ruckus, disrupting the functioning of the office. The act has been classified as obstruction of public duty and rioting, and police are now investigating the matter.
Municipal staff have condemned the attack and demanded strict action to ensure the safety of government officials on duty. The incident has once again raised concerns about the increasing pressure and aggression public servants face while addressing land disputes and civic issues.
