Mysuru: Mysuru district (city) Congress vice-president and the party’s resource person for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, K C Showkath Pasha, has announced that a comprehensive awareness campaign will be launched to educate voters about the ongoing revision process.

As part of the initiative, informational handouts in English, Kannada and Urdu will be printed and distributed to every household in Mysuru city. The campaign aims to ensure that voters understand the procedures involved in the SIR exercise and are aware of the steps required to safeguard their names in the electoral rolls.

Awareness drive to educate voters

Addressing mediapersons, Showkath Pasha said the awareness material would provide detailed information about the Special Intensive Revision process and guide voters on how to complete the required formalities.

He emphasised that genuine voters need not fear losing their voting rights, describing the revision process as robust and transparent. According to him, the objective of the campaign is to eliminate confusion and encourage greater public participation in the electoral verification exercise.

Pasha, a former corporator and former Leader of the Opposition in the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), said the Congress party is actively monitoring the process and participating in meetings convened by the Election Commission.

CM committed to fair voter revision process

Showkath Pasha said Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has expressed keen interest in ensuring a fair and inclusive electoral roll revision process.

According to him, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure that no eligible voter is omitted from the electoral rolls except in cases where an individual is not an Indian citizen or has passed away.

He said the government’s focus is on maintaining accurate electoral records while protecting the voting rights of all eligible citizens.

The Congress leader also stated that he has been attending Election Commission meetings related to the revision exercise over the past three months on behalf of the party.

Majority of voters already mapped

Providing an update on the progress of the exercise, Pasha said that as of June 15, approximately 96.45 per cent of voters enrolled in 2025 had already been mapped across the 11 Assembly constituencies of Mysuru district.

According to the figures cited by him, 27,00,658 voters have been mapped out of a total electorate of 27,99,995.

The remaining 99,337 voters are expected to undergo verification, and eligible individuals left out of the mapping process will be included in the rolls. He also noted that citizens who have recently attained the age of 18 can enrol as new voters.

Pasha expressed confidence that the ongoing exercise would ensure comprehensive coverage of all eligible electors in the district.

Enumeration forms to be distributed from June 30

Explaining the next phase of the process, Pasha said Booth Level Officers (BLOs), accompanied by Booth Level Agents (BLAs) representing recognised national political parties, will begin visiting households from June 30 or earlier.

During these visits, pre-printed Enumeration Forms in duplicate will be distributed to each voter. Citizens will be required to fill in the forms using details available in the 2002 and 2025 electoral rolls.

Voters can seek assistance from BLOs or BLAs while completing the forms if required. One copy of the completed form must be submitted to the BLO, Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), while the second copy should be retained by the voter as proof of submission.

Provision for absent family members

Pasha clarified that if a voter is abroad or unavailable at the time of verification, the head of the family or another adult family member may sign the form on their behalf.

He also stated that voters will not be required to submit supporting documents along with the Enumeration Form during the initial stage of the process.

BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification and, if a residence is found locked, officials will make up to three visits between June 30 and July 29.

In cases where residents remain unavailable, the form may be left at the residence along with the contact details of the concerned BLO for further communication and submission.

Scrutiny process to address discrepancies

After collection, the forms will be subjected to electronic scrutiny by the authorities.

According to Pasha, any forms containing logical discrepancies or inconsistencies will trigger individual notices to the concerned voters. Such voters will then be given an opportunity to provide clarifications or submit supporting documents to validate their information.

He maintained that the multi-layered verification process would ensure that genuine voters are not excluded from the electoral rolls and that any issues identified during scrutiny can be rectified through due process.

Conclusion

The proposed multilingual awareness campaign and household distribution of SIR handouts are aimed at ensuring that voters in Mysuru fully understand the electoral roll revision process. With extensive verification mechanisms, door-to-door visits and opportunities for clarification, officials and political representatives have expressed confidence that eligible voters will be able to retain their voting rights while maintaining the accuracy of the electoral rolls.
