In a striking example of neglect, a government lower primary school in Haraganapura village, located in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru — the home district of the Chief Minister — is functioning without even the most basic infrastructure.

With only one classroom for all five grades, over 25 students from Class 1 to 5 are forced to study in cramped conditions, often taking lessons in the veranda due to lack of space. The situation is no better in neighboring Helavarahundi, which also has just one primary school.

Despite repeated pleas from villagers and school authorities for additional classrooms and basic amenities, no action has been taken. Frustrated by the poor facilities, parents are increasingly shifting their children to private schools that offer better infrastructure — leading to stagnant enrollment at the government institution.

The overcrowded, under-resourced environment is taking a toll on both learning outcomes and student morale. If swift action is not taken to improve conditions, the school risks complete decline or closure in the coming years.

While the Education Department has recently initiated some school development measures, locals stress that without urgent construction of extra classrooms and upgrades to facilities, those efforts will be in vain.

This shocking scenario — in the Chief Minister’s own backyard — has drawn criticism, with many questioning how students in rural pockets are expected to thrive without access to basic educational infrastructure.
