A deteriorating culvert on Mysuru-Manandavadi Road, near Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) Ltd.’s Centenary Hall, poses a significant hazard for both motorists and pedestrians.
The metal crash barrier along the culvert has suffered severe damage, while the footpath’s interlocking tiles are gradually sinking, making the structure vulnerable to collapse.
Taking immediate action, the Krishnaraja Traffic Police secured the site with barricades and caution tape to warn road users. Acting under Traffic ACP M. Shivashankar’s directives, Inspector Mahadevaswamy and his team quickly addressed the situation, earning praise from concerned citizens.
Despite this temporary safeguard, a permanent repair is crucial to prevent a potential disaster. Authorities have been urged to reinforce the footpath and restore the crash barrier before the issue escalates.
A High-Risk Stretch
The Mysuru-Manandavadi Road serves as a vital route connecting Kerala, H.D. Kote, and Mysuru taluk villages. The section from M.N. Srinivas Circle to JLB Road witnesses heavy traffic, including KSRTC buses, trucks, and private vehicles.
With high-speed traffic approaching from B. Basavalingappa Circle, the damaged culvert, located near a curve, increases accident risks, particularly for those making right turns towards a nearby college.
Cycle Track Misuse Addressed
Meanwhile, illegal vehicle parking on Vishwamanava Double Road’s cycle track, previously reported by Star of Mysore, has prompted strict action. Following Traffic ACP Shivashankar’s orders, Krishnaraja Traffic Police installed no-parking signs and are closely monitoring the area to prevent further violations.
