Authorities have registered a case under the Child Marriage Act after a 12-year-old girl studying in Class 7 was illegally married off to a young man in Mysuru.
Tara, an officer with the Women and Child Development Department, lodged the complaint at the Vidyaranyapuram police station.
According to officials, the minor, originally from Bengaluru, was given in marriage to Appu, a resident of Mysuru. Acting on a tip-off, Women and Child Development Project staff rushed to the location, rescued the child, and shifted her to the Mysuru Children’s Home for safety and care.
Based on the inquiry and the girl’s statement, an FIR has been filed against her father Siddharaju, mother Mangalagauri, sister Shalini, her husband Appu, and mother-in-law Mangala.
During questioning, the girl informed the police that she had been studying in a Bengaluru school and was forced into the marriage while still in Class 7.
Officials emphasized that the case will be thoroughly investigated to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice and to prevent similar incidents.
