MYSURU: A thick blanket of fog helped extinguish the fire that broke out on Chamundi Hill yesterday. However, concerns linger as the area remains covered in ashes, raising the possibility of rekindling by afternoon.

The Forest Department and firefighting teams worked tirelessly overnight to control the flames, ensuring that no active fires remain at the moment.

The blaze is believed to have started after a large pile of firewood was dumped in the morning, quickly spreading across the dry terrain. Authorities have since deployed two firefighters at the site to monitor the situation and respond swiftly if the fire reignites.

While the immediate threat seems to have subsided, officials caution that the afternoon heat could reignite smoldering embers, requiring continued vigilance.

Locals and environmentalists have urged authorities to implement stricter fire prevention measures to protect the scenic and ecologically significant Chamundi Hill from further incidents.
