Mysuru: Four tigers have reportedly been spotted together in a single area near Akala village in Nanjangud taluk, Mysuru district, during a drone surveillance operation conducted by the Forest Department. The sighting has heightened anxiety among residents, particularly following two recent tiger attacks in the surrounding region.
The drone footage was reportedly captured on Wednesday night as forest officials intensified efforts to track and capture the tiger involved in recent attacks.
The latest sighting has raised concerns among villagers, who fear that the presence of multiple tigers could pose a further threat to people living near forest areas.
Recent tiger attacks create fear among villagers
The drone sighting comes after a tiger reportedly attacked farmer Paramesh at Akala village two days earlier, leaving him injured. He was shifted to JSS Hospital in Mysuru for treatment.
The incident had already created concern among farmers and residents, who urged the Forest Department to track the animal and take immediate action to prevent further attacks.
In another incident, a 45-year-old tribal woman named Machamma was killed in a tiger attack at Doranakatte Colony, within the Hediyala Gram Panchayat limits of Nanjangud taluk. The incident occurred while she was reportedly grazing goats near her field. The tiger dragged her into the forest, and forest personnel later used drone technology to locate and recover her body.
The two incidents have intensified demands for stronger measures to protect residents from wildlife attacks.
Forest Department launches capture operation
Following the attacks and complaints from villagers, the Forest Department launched an operation to track and capture the tiger suspected of being involved in the incidents.
As part of the operation, officials have been using drone cameras to monitor movement in the surrounding forest areas. During surveillance on Wednesday night, the cameras reportedly captured images of four tigers in the same area.
The footage has added another dimension to the operation, as officials now have to monitor the movement of multiple animals while assessing the situation.
Four-tiger sighting raises fresh concerns
The sighting of four tigers in one location has caused further anxiety among people in Akala and neighbouring villages. Residents are concerned about the possibility of the animals moving closer to agricultural fields and residential areas.
Farmers and other villagers who regularly visit their fields are particularly worried following the recent attacks. They have been seeking effective action from the Forest Department to ensure their safety.
The department is continuing its surveillance and capture efforts, with drone cameras being used to track the animals’ movements.
Operation intensified amid safety concerns
The Forest Department has intensified its efforts following the latest drone sighting. Officials are monitoring the area to understand the movement of the tigers and take appropriate steps.
The immediate priority remains addressing the threat to residents and preventing further human-wildlife conflict. The presence of four tigers in the same area has made the situation particularly concerning for local communities.
With recent attacks still fresh in the minds of villagers, residents are hoping that the ongoing operation will help restore a sense of safety in the region.
