Mysuru: In a daring daylight theft, a six-member gang allegedly stole ₹50,000 from the under-seat storage compartment of a scooter parked near the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Nanjangud, Mysuru district. The incident, which occurred on July 16, was captured on CCTV cameras.
The victim, Chandrakanth, an agriculturist from Hosakuru village, had reportedly withdrawn ₹3.5 lakh from a bank earlier that day.
Theft executed in broad daylight
According to Chandrakanth, he carried ₹3 lakh with him to repay a lease amount to his tenant, while the remaining ₹50,000 was kept inside the locked storage compartment of his scooter.
CCTV footage shows six individuals approaching the parked vehicle. One suspect, wearing a cap marked with the letter ‘P’, stood near the scooter while the others acted as lookouts to ensure no one was watching.
After waiting for a few moments, the group surrounded the scooter. One of the suspects forcefully lifted the locked seat while another quickly reached into the compartment and removed the cash before the group fled the spot.
CCTV footage aids investigation
The entire incident was recorded by nearby CCTV cameras, providing investigators with crucial evidence. Police are examining the footage to identify the suspects and trace their movements.
The incident has raised concerns over the increasing number of thefts targeting vehicles parked in public places, even during daytime.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to apprehend the accused.
