A gas leak at a rummage (gujari) shop near Old Kesare in Mysuru resulted in over 30 individuals falling ill on Friday evening. The affected individuals, including residents and workers, were promptly taken to nearby private hospitals as well as KR Hospital. Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported, although one individual remains in serious condition.
The incident unfolded at a rummage shop owned by Mahbub near Varuna upper stream, close to Hale Kesare. Initially, four workers clearing empty cylinders containing chlorine and ammonium fell ill. Subsequently, due to further gas leakage and dispersion, individuals at neighboring shops also experienced breathing difficulties, necessitating hospitalization.
Symptoms reported by the affected individuals included chest pain and respiratory distress, prompting immediate administration of oxygen. Even residents of the nearby old mud settlement felt the impact of the incident.
Upon notification, a team of health department doctors, accompanied by ambulances, rushed to the scene to provide urgent medical aid. Preliminary treatment is ongoing, with individuals being transferred to hospitals as required.
Police conducted an inspection at the hospital in response to the incident, further underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
