As the 2025–26 academic session gets underway, the long-overdue inauguration of the J.P. Nagar campus of Government First Grade College (GFGC), Kuvempunagar, remains unresolved, leaving over 1,700 students in continued uncertainty.

Originally established in 1996 with a small student base, the college now struggles with inadequate infrastructure. In response, a new campus was constructed in Siddalingeshwara Layout, J.P. Nagar, following a ₹4.10 crore sanction in 2018. The new building includes nine classrooms, an office, a principal’s chamber, and separate restrooms for boys and girls.

Despite ₹3 crore in additional budgetary allocation in 2024–25 for ten more classrooms — with desks for 60% of them already procured — official clearance to occupy the new building remains pending. Students from Madapura, H.D. Kote, Sargur, and beyond have taken admission, but overcrowding persists at the current campus.

The college offers BA, BSc, BCom, and BBA programmes, with over 40% of the student body comprising female students, many of whom stay in hostels or PG accommodations. The delay in shifting the B.Com and BBA departments to the fully-equipped new facility is sparking frustration.

The inauguration, initially set for July 31, 2024, and later rescheduled for May 28, 2025, was postponed twice due to the Chief Minister’s unavailability. MLA T.S. Srivatsa has promised to push for a confirmed date or bypass the ceremony altogether.

Students have also requested that six acres of nearby Government land be allocated for a stadium, with alternative plans proposing a new bus stand. A final decision is pending at the state level.
