Mysuru: Separate FIRs have been registered against alleged gold scam accused Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi and a group of customers, bringing a fresh turn to the case involving allegations of cheating and intimidation.
Chinnathambi is accused of allegedly cheating thousands of customers by pledging their gold and failing to return it. Customers have now lodged a complaint against Chinnathambi and two others, including Kavithashree, alleging threats and assault.
Customers allege assault and threats
In their complaint, seven customers alleged that Chinnathambi, after securing bail, had promised to settle their money.
They said that on August 7, he summoned them through a Police officer to his restaurant, Club 64, in the Kuvempunagar Police limits. According to the complaint, when they reached the restaurant, Chinnathambi, Kavithashree and others allegedly locked them inside, abused them and had them assaulted by people described as goonda elements.
The customers further alleged that they were threatened with serious consequences if they did not withdraw their complaint and the case against Chinnathambi. They said they eventually managed to escape and subsequently approached the Police.
Head Constable files separate complaint
Meanwhile, Head Constable Mahadeva of Kuvempunagar Police Station filed a complaint against customers who allegedly staged a protest without permission.
According to his complaint, around 15 to 20 people blocked a public road on the night of August 14, causing inconvenience to the public.
The Head Constable said he approached the protesters and asked them to stop. However, they allegedly ignored his instructions and began beating drums, thereby obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty.
Customers seek thorough probe
The affected customers also met former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his recent visit to Mysuru and explained their difficulties.
After hearing them, Siddaramaiah reportedly contacted City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, sought information about the case and instructed her to conduct a thorough investigation.
