Mysuru: Karnataka Legislative Council member H Vishwanath on Thursday announced that he would no longer contest elections, stating that the increasing financial demands of present-day electoral politics had influenced his decision.
Addressing reporters in Mysuru, the senior politician said he did not possess the financial capacity required to contest elections under the current political environment, where candidates are allegedly expected to spend enormous sums of money.
“I do not have the capacity to spend Rs 50 crore and contest elections. Hence, I will not contest any election in the future,” Vishwanath said during the interaction with the media.
His remarks have drawn attention in political circles, especially considering his long political career and active role in Karnataka politics over several decades.
Concern over rising election expenditure
Speaking further, Vishwanath reflected on the changing nature of electoral politics and the increasing influence of money in election campaigns.

“When I contested elections several times in the past, people contributed money and supported me wholeheartedly. But now, the situation has changed where candidates are expected to spend money to face elections,” he remarked.
