Mysuru : The Karnataka Lokayukta has arrested Hunsur Assistant Commissioner Kavyarani and her personal assistant Shivakumar in an alleged bribery case linked to a land dispute in H.D. Kote taluk. Both have been produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
The arrests followed a trap operation conducted by Lokayukta officials after a Bengaluru resident lodged a complaint alleging that the Assistant Commissioner had demanded ₹10.50 lakh to resolve a pending land-related matter.
Lokayukta lays trap during second payment
According to Lokayukta officials, a case relating to 4 acres and 20 guntas of land in Survey No. 17/26 of H.D. Kote taluk had been pending before the Hunsur Assistant Commissioner’s Court for nearly a year.
The complainant, Dr Roopa, a resident of Bengaluru, alleged that the Assistant Commissioner demanded ₹10.50 lakh to favour her in the case.
Police said the complainant had already paid the first instalment of ₹5 lakh before approaching the Lokayukta. During the payment of the second instalment of ₹5.50 lakh on Monday, Lokayukta officials conducted a raid and allegedly caught the officer accepting the bribe.
PA also taken into custody
Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Shylendra confirmed that Shivakumar, the personal assistant to the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer, was also taken into custody in connection with the case.
Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Udesh said an FIR has been registered and both accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising Lokayukta officers Ravikumar, Madikeri DySP Dinakarshetty, Inspector Veena Nayak, and other personnel.
The Lokayukta is continuing its investigation into the alleged bribery case.
