Mysuru: KPCC Working President and Narasimharaja (NR) MLA Tanveer Sait announced on Monday that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proposed a premium floor area ratio (FAR) in the Budget, emphasizing post-construction maintenance of buildings.
Inaugurating the State Conclave-2024 of the Karnataka unit of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI) in Mysuru, Sait highlighted the forthcoming implementation of this plan. He underscored the need for responsible development, criticizing the exploitation of nature for greed and luxury, which leads to future disasters. Sait pointed out the prevalent violations of building regulations by engineers, builders, and contractors, resulting in issues such as inadequate water sources, improper drainage systems, and lack of parking spaces.
Sait also addressed the continuous expansion and construction in Bengaluru, noting widespread non-compliance with building norms. He called for a debate on the true benefits of such rapid development.
Regarding Mysuru, Sait mentioned a proposal for a Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and advocated for a discussion on its necessity. MLA T S Srivathsa added that many apartment occupants pay double taxes due to builders’ violations of approved plans, attracting fines.
Srivathsa also highlighted the backlog of 1,400 cases against builders in Mysuru under the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), with only 900 resolved due to staff shortages. RERA’s limited authority to facilitate refunds for investors continues to pose challenges.
The conclave, attended by members from various CREDAI-Karnataka chapters, focused on real estate development, adoption of new technologies, and industry challenges. The event concludes on Tuesday.
