Mysuru: World-renowned Hindustani classical musician and sarod maestro Pandit Rajeev Taranath passed away on Tuesday after undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru for the past two weeks. He was 91.

A towering figure in Indian classical music, Pandit Taranath was revered for his unparalleled virtuosity on the sarod. His dedication to the art form earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his deep sadness at Pandit Taranath’s passing. In a social media post, he called the maestro “Karnataka’s proud son” and said his passing leaves an “irreplaceable loss” for the entire music world. He lauded Pandit Taranath not only for his musical genius but also for his exemplary character.

Public to Pay Respects

The public will have the opportunity to pay their last respects at Pandit Taranath’s residence in Mysuru’s Kuvempunagar on Wednesday.
