The University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor, N.K. Lokanath, inaugurated the two-day Media Habba at Manasagangotri on Thursday. Addressing journalism students, he stressed the importance of credibility in news reporting and urged them to focus on fact-checking in an era where fake news spreads rapidly.
He emphasized the need for objectivity and accuracy in journalism and encouraged students to develop a strong mindset and commit to continuous learning. Highlighting the decline of reading habits in the digital era, he advised students to engage in extensive reading to produce in-depth analytical reports.
Senior journalist Maya Sharma urged students to use AI, social media, and digital platforms constructively. She emphasized the need for neutrality and ethical reporting, cautioning them against bias in news coverage.
Karnataka Media Academy Chairperson Ayesha Khanum encouraged students to develop a questioning mindset and announced upcoming training programs on digital media. Registrar Sahana and Head of Journalism & Mass Communication, N. Mamatha, were also present at the event.
