Mysuru: In a shocking incident that has shaken the city, a woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her own son following prolonged mental and physical harassment linked to his alcohol addiction. The incident was reported from the N.R. Mohalla area of Mysuru.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh (43), while the accused, Manjula, is his mother. She worked as a domestic help in nearby houses to support the family.

Years of alleged harassment

According to police sources, Ramesh was addicted to alcohol and remained unemployed. He allegedly subjected his mother to daily harassment, frequently demanding money to sustain his drinking habit.

Investigators stated that the constant abuse had severely affected Manjula’s mental well-being. The prolonged stress and lack of relief reportedly pushed her to take an extreme step.

Incident near Chamundi Hills

The crime took place near the foothills of Chamundi Hills. On the day of the incident, Manjula is said to have taken her son to the location under the pretext of a discussion.

However, an argument reportedly broke out between the two, escalating rapidly. In a fit of rage, Manjula allegedly picked up a stone and struck Ramesh on the head. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot due to heavy blood loss.

CCTV footage helps crack case

Initially, the case presented few immediate clues. Upon receiving information, police from Nazarbad Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation.

With limited evidence available, officers examined CCTV footage from nearby areas. The footage showed Manjula accompanying her son towards Chamundi Hills shortly before the incident, raising suspicion.

Based on this evidence, she was detained for questioning.

Confession during interrogation

During interrogation, Manjula reportedly confessed to the crime, detailing the sustained harassment and the circumstances that led to the fatal assault. Police officials stated that her statement aligned with the evidence collected during the investigation.

Following the confession, she was formally arrested and produced before the court.

Legal action and custody

Police have registered a case of murder against the accused and have sent her to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to complete legal formalities and submit the charge sheet.

Conclusion

The incident has once again highlighted the devastating impact of substance abuse on families, often leading to tragic consequences. Authorities and social experts emphasise the need for stronger support systems, addiction treatment, and counselling services to prevent such incidents. As the case proceeds, it raises important questions about mental health, domestic stress, and the broader social challenges associated with alcoholism.
