Mysuru: A 40-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of five to six youths in broad daylight near Gokulam Park on October 3, with police suspecting that a dispute over his relationship with a woman may have led to the attack.
The deceased has been identified as T. Mahesh, a resident of Gayathripuram who was working as a supplier at a bar on Hebbal Main Road. According to the police, Mahesh had been involved in a dispute with some of the youths over his relationship with a woman, which they had reportedly objected to.
The assailants allegedly confronted Mahesh after calling him out of the bar and later followed him towards Gokulam, where they attacked him with knives. He died at the spot.
The V.V. Puram Police have registered a case and formed two special teams to trace and arrest the accused. Police are investigating whether the alleged relationship or a financial dispute was behind the murder.
Youths allegedly call Mahesh out of bar
According to the police version reported by Star of Mysore, the incident began at around 3.30 pm on October 3 when the group allegedly contacted Mahesh by phone.
The youths reportedly asked him to come outside the bar for a discussion. Mahesh came out, following which an argument allegedly broke out between him and the group near a park.
The nature of the disagreement is being investigated. Police suspect that the dispute may have been connected to Mahesh’s relationship with a woman, although a financial issue is also being examined as a possible motive.
After the argument, Mahesh reportedly left the area in his vehicle and proceeded towards Gokulam.
Attack takes place near Gokulam Park
The group allegedly followed Mahesh towards Gokulam and stopped his vehicle near Gokulam Park.
According to the police, the youths then attacked him with knives and stabbed him multiple times.
The attack reportedly took place in front of people who had gathered at the location. Mahesh sustained multiple stab injuries and died at the scene before he could be taken for medical treatment.
The attackers allegedly fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
The broad-daylight nature of the attack has drawn attention in the locality, while the police have begun efforts to identify and apprehend all those involved.
V.V. Puram Police begin investigation
Personnel from the V.V. Puram Police reached the scene after receiving information about the attack.
Police conducted a mahazar at the spot and shifted Mahesh’s body to the mortuary at Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) for further procedures.
A case has been registered in connection with the murder, and investigators are examining the circumstances that preceded the attack.
Two special teams have been formed to trace the accused. Police are expected to examine available evidence, including information about Mahesh’s movements before the attack and the identities of the youths who allegedly followed him.
The investigation will also seek to establish whether the alleged relationship was the primary reason for the attack or whether another dispute was involved.
Police examine suspected motive
The police are currently examining more than one possible motive.
The primary line of inquiry is reportedly a dispute involving Mahesh’s relationship with a woman. Some youths had allegedly objected to the relationship, leading to a confrontation before the murder.
However, police have also raised the possibility of a financial dispute.
At this stage, the exact motive has not been conclusively established. The allegations regarding the relationship and the role of the youths will have to be verified through the investigation.
The police will also need to establish the individual roles of those allegedly involved in the attack before making arrests and presenting the evidence before the court.
Investigation under way to trace accused
The formation of two special teams indicates that the police are treating the case as a priority.
Investigators are expected to gather information about the group that allegedly contacted Mahesh, followed him to Gokulam and attacked him.
The sequence of events — from the phone call at the bar to the confrontation and subsequent attack near Gokulam Park — will form a key part of the investigation.
Police will also establish whether the accused knew Mahesh personally and whether there had been previous disagreements or threats.
Any CCTV footage or eyewitness information available from the area could assist investigators in reconstructing the incident and identifying the suspects.
Broad-daylight murder raises safety concerns
The incident has also raised concerns about public safety in residential and commercial areas of Gokulam.
The attack allegedly occurred during the afternoon when people were present in the vicinity. Such incidents can cause concern among residents and businesses, particularly when multiple people are allegedly involved.
The police investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether there were any previous incidents involving the victim and the suspects.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the alleged attackers, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
