Mysore: The Karnataka government has granted an extension to the one-man judicial commission investigating alleged irregularities in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The commission, led by retired High Court judge PN Desai, now has until May 31 to submit its final report.

Initially, the panel was directed to complete its investigation by mid-January 2025. However, due to delays in gathering evidence, Judge Desai requested additional time, prompting the government to revise the deadline. The extension provides the commission with an extra four-and-a-half months to thoroughly examine the allegations.

Concerns over misallocation of sites and financial mismanagement in MUDA surfaced after multiple reports in the media. In response, the government established the inquiry committee in July 2024, under the Commission of Inquiry Act. Initially, a six-month timeframe was set, but with growing complexities in the case, additional time was deemed necessary.

Confirming the development, MUDA secretary Prasanna Kumar stated that the government has officially approved the deadline extension for the PN Desai Commission to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the urban body’s dealings.

The move highlights the government’s commitment to unraveling corruption and ensuring transparency in urban land distribution.
