Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is set to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered CCTV cameras to tackle illegal waste dumping in public spaces. Despite collecting 550 tons of garbage daily and conducting night-time operations to catch offenders, illegal dumping persists.

Details:

  • Technology: AI-powered CCTV cameras will be installed at 50 identified blackspots in the first phase. These cameras offer 360-degree vision and can identify individuals dumping waste within a 20-meter radius. They capture images, record vehicle numbers, and send real-time alerts and voice messages to MCC officials.
  • Enforcement: The footage will help officials track and penalise offenders. Repeat offenders will face increased penalties and potential legal action.
  • Progress: MCC has already completed the tender process and will soon acquire the cameras. A total of over 133 blackspots have been identified, with additional cameras planned for subsequent phases.

Community Impact: The initiative aims to improve public cleanliness and reduce the number of waste dumpers, enhancing the city’s sanitation and public health.
