Mysuru: The popular Dasara Flower Show at Kuppanna Park will showcase a grand floral replica of Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha this year, with lakhs of roses set to transform the Glass House into a celebration of democracy. The flower show will be organised under the theme ‘Festival of Democracy’ from October 11 to 21.

Organised by the Department of Horticulture, the annual flower show is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors during the Dasara season. Preparations are already underway at Kuppanna Park near Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle, popularly known as Hardinge Circle.

Vidhana Soudha replica to be centrepiece

The main attraction inside the Glass House will be a floral replica of Bengaluru’s iconic Vidhana Soudha. The structure will be recreated using lakhs of roses and is planned to measure 42 feet in width, 18 feet in length and 15 feet in height.

The installation has been planned to reflect the spirit of democracy and complement this year’s central theme, ‘Festival of Democracy’. Visitors will be able to view the elaborate rose structure as the centrepiece of the exhibition.

The floral installation is expected to combine horticultural artistry with a public-awareness message, making the flower show more than just a visual attraction during the Dasara festivities.

Constitution and Ashoka Chakra to feature in flowers

Along with Vidhana Soudha, several important symbols associated with India’s democratic system will also be recreated using flowers.

Floral replicas of the Constitution, Ashoka Chakra and State Emblem are planned as part of the exhibition. Roses will be used for these installations, with the exact colours of the flowers expected to be finalised shortly.

The organisers also plan to replace the flowers midway through the exhibition to ensure that the installations remain fresh throughout the 11-day event.

The focus on democratic symbols is intended to highlight the importance of the Constitution, voting and civic participation while attracting visitors through large-scale floral artwork.

Flower show to promote voting awareness

The ‘Festival of Democracy’ theme will focus on subjects such as compulsory voting, the importance of the ballot and the Constitution.

The Department of Horticulture plans to use floral sculptures and displays to communicate these messages to visitors. With the flower show traditionally drawing large crowds during Dasara, organisers are looking to use the occasion to create greater public awareness about democratic participation.

Daily visitor numbers are expected to be between 30,000 and 40,000, making the event one of the major public attractions during the Dasara season.

Sprinklers planned to keep flowers fresh

Maintaining the large floral installations in Mysuru’s dry weather will be a major logistical task. To prevent the flowers from wilting, hundreds of sprinklers are planned inside the Glass House.

Ceiling-mounted sprinkling systems will also be installed to maintain the freshness of the floral structures throughout the exhibition. The arrangements are aimed at ensuring that the Vidhana Soudha replica and other displays remain visually appealing despite the expected heavy footfall.

Women’s empowerment and sports among planned themes

Apart from the main democracy theme, several sub-themes are also being considered for different sections of Kuppanna Park.

Planned floral installations include women’s empowerment, the State’s Guarantee Schemes and India’s sporting achievements at the Commonwealth Games. However, the final sub-themes are yet to be confirmed by the organisers.

The displays are expected to add variety to the exhibition while connecting the traditional flower show with contemporary social and national themes.

Preparations underway at Kuppanna Park

Preparations for the Dasara Flower Show are currently progressing at Kuppanna Park. The tender process for entry ticketing and food stalls is also in its final stage and is expected to be completed within a week, according to the report.

Joint Director of Horticulture Roopashree said preparations were in full swing and confirmed that the flower show would be held under the ‘Festival of Democracy’ banner, with Vidhana Soudha recreated using roses inside the Glass House.

With the floral Vidhana Soudha, replicas of constitutional symbols and several proposed awareness-themed installations, this year’s Dasara Flower Show is expected to offer visitors a combination of horticulture, art and civic messaging.
