Mysuru: Security has been intensified across Mysuru ahead of the 416th edition of Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara, with 5,161 police personnel deployed across the city to ensure the festival passes off peacefully. The arrangements include bomb squads, Anti-Sabotage Check (ASC) teams, sniffer dogs and extensive CCTV surveillance.
The Karnataka State Police Department and Mysuru City Police have stepped up security at major Dasara venues, public gathering points and along the Jumboo Savari route as large numbers of visitors are expected to attend the festivities.
According to a report published on October 12, a total of 33 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons have also been deployed as part of the security arrangements. The city has installed 34,000 CCTV cameras for round-the-clock surveillance.
Bomb squads and anti-sabotage teams deployed
To strengthen security and prevent possible threats, 16 Anti-Sabotage Check teams and three bomb squads have been deployed at various locations across Mysuru.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr Harsha Priyamvada said the teams had been assigned specific areas to carry out regular checks.
The teams are inspecting important Dasara venues, including Kalamandira, the Torchlight Parade Grounds, Uttanahalli, which hosts Yuva Dasara, the Aahara Mela, the Flower Show and the Kambala venue at Sathagalli.
Sniffer dogs and metal detectors are being used during inspections to identify suspicious objects and rule out potential security threats.
The ASC teams have been brought in from Hassan, Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar to support the security operation.
Additional security along Jumboo Savari route
Special security arrangements have been made along the Jumboo Savari procession route, which runs from Mysore Palace to the Torchlight Parade Grounds.
Additional police teams have been deployed along the route to monitor crowd movement and prevent untoward incidents during the procession.
With large crowds expected to gather to witness the traditional procession, police personnel will maintain vigilance at key points and public gathering areas.
The arrangements are part of a wider effort to ensure the safety of visitors, residents, performers and officials participating in the Dasara celebrations.
CCTV surveillance across the city
The installation of 34,000 CCTV cameras is a key component of Mysuru’s security plan. The cameras are intended to facilitate continuous monitoring of public spaces and help police respond promptly to suspicious activity.
The combination of CCTV surveillance, specialised security teams and additional police deployment is aimed at strengthening crowd management and ensuring a safe environment throughout the festival.
Security stepped up for grand Dasara celebrations
Mysuru Dasara, celebrated over 11 days, attracts visitors from across Karnataka and other parts of India. The annual festival features cultural programmes, exhibitions, food fairs and the iconic Jumboo Savari procession.
Given the scale of this year’s celebrations, police and security agencies are maintaining heightened vigilance at venues and locations expected to draw large crowds.
Authorities have put multiple layers of security in place to help ensure that the festivities proceed smoothly and safely.
