Mysuru: A city-based organisation has launched an initiative to collect used textbooks from students and graduates to support economically disadvantaged learners, promoting both educational access and a culture of giving back.

The Mysuru chapter of Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana (BJS) announced a structured donation drive encouraging people to contribute textbooks from first PUC level and above. The initiative aims to redistribute educational resources to deserving students who may not have the means to afford them.

Focus on educational support

BJS Mysuru chapter president Rajan Baghmar said the initiative is designed to create a positive impact in the education sector.

“The students and those who have completed their education can donate their used textbooks to empower deserving students from economically weaker backgrounds and help them build a brighter future,” he said.

The organisers believe that such efforts can significantly ease the financial burden on families while ensuring that students have access to necessary study materials.

Donation schedule and locations

According to BJS secretary Deepak Bohra, the collection drive will be conducted on three Sundays—May 3, May 10 and May 17—from 10 am to 1 pm.

Donors can drop off textbooks at multiple locations across Mysuru, making it convenient for residents to participate in the initiative.

The designated collection centres include:

  • Sri Sthanak Bhavan
  • Sri Terapanth Sabha Bhavan
  • Adeshwar Vatika
  • Kunthunath Bhavan

BJS treasurer Manohar Sankala confirmed that volunteers will be present at these centres during the specified hours to receive the donated books.

Encouraging social responsibility

Organisers highlighted that beyond educational support, the initiative also aims to instil a sense of social responsibility among youth.

“This initiative promotes the habit of giving back to society among youngsters,” Bohra said, urging more people to participate in the campaign.

The collected books will be sorted and distributed to students in need, ensuring that they reach the intended beneficiaries ahead of the academic cycle.
