Mysuru: Mysuru City Police have extended traffic regulations and parking restrictions across the city until October 31 in view of the extension of Dasara illumination for 2026. The restrictions will remain in force daily from 3 pm to midnight to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.
City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar has issued an order enforcing the restrictions under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Karnataka Traffic Control Act, 1960.
The arrangements include one-way traffic systems around Mysuru Palace and other prominent locations, along with parking prohibitions on several major roads. The measures are intended to manage the movement of vehicles and visitors during the extended illumination period, when large numbers of people are expected to visit the city’s illuminated landmarks.
One-way traffic around Mysuru Palace
An anticlockwise one-way traffic system will operate around Mysuru Palace, covering several key junctions and roads in the surrounding area.
The designated route includes Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, KR Circle, New Sayyaji Rao Road, Rachaiah Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Gun House, Wrestling Akhada Junction, BN Road, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Circle and Albert Victor Road.
Motorists travelling through these areas will be required to follow the prescribed direction of movement and comply with instructions issued by traffic police.
A separate clockwise traffic system will be implemented around Big Clock Tower, Ashoka Road, Irwin Road and Nehru Circle.
These arrangements are aimed at regulating vehicle movement around busy city-centre locations and reducing congestion during the evening hours.
One-way rules on additional roads
One-way traffic regulations will also apply to several other roads across Mysuru during the restriction period.
The affected roads include Old Bank Road, Ashoka Road, Banumaiah Road, Thyagaraja Road, Lokaranjan Road, Shalivahana Road and Ramanuja Road.
Motorists are advised to check traffic signs and follow directions at junctions before proceeding through these stretches.
The restrictions are part of the broader traffic management plan introduced for the extended Dasara illumination, which attracts residents and visitors to prominent roads and public spaces across the city.
Parking prohibited on major roads
To prevent roadside parking from obstructing traffic, the police have prohibited parking on both sides of several major roads and stretches.
The affected areas include roads surrounding Mysuru Palace, Sayyaji Rao Road, JLB Road, MG Road, BN Road, Ashoka Road and Nelson Mandela Road.
Parking restrictions will also cover areas near Mysuru Zoo and the Exhibition Grounds.
The measures are intended to keep roads clear, improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of congestion in areas frequented by visitors during the illumination period.
Motorists visiting these locations are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid parking along restricted stretches.
Restrictions in force till October 31
The extended traffic regulations and parking restrictions will remain in force daily from 3 pm to midnight until October 31.
The police have appealed to motorists and visitors to cooperate with traffic personnel and comply with the prescribed arrangements. Commuters are also advised to follow temporary traffic signs and instructions while travelling through the affected areas.
With the Dasara illumination period extended, the traffic measures are intended to help residents and tourists move around Mysuru safely while minimising disruption to regular traffic.
The police have urged the public to follow the regulations throughout the restriction period to ensure smoother vehicle movement and safer access to the city’s illuminated attractions.
