Mysuru: Despite forecasts of a normal monsoon, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has not yet initiated road maintenance or stormwater drain clearing, leading to frequent waterlogging across the city. Even brief spells of rain have resulted in flood-like conditions, inconveniencing residents and commuters.
On Tuesday, an hour of rainfall caused roads to flood, making driving extremely difficult in many neighborhoods. Rainwater gushed along major roads, mixing with garbage and debris, forcing pourakarmikas to manually clear the clogged streets.
With senior MCC officials unavailable for comment, citizens voiced their frustration over the lack of monsoon readiness, including neglected drainage systems and unrepaired roads. Bogadi resident Rajeshwari B A shared her ordeal, describing how the stretch from KR Circle to Bogadi Junction was overrun with rainwater. She questioned why drains weren’t diverting the flow and criticized the MCC for failing to clean minor canals.
MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar attributed the issue to the postponement of MCC and local body elections, citing repeated inaction despite multiple reminders. Similarly, Krishnaraja MLA T S Srivatsa lamented the lack of response to his letters urging monsoon readiness, doubting whether the MCC even has the necessary funds or manpower.
Meanwhile, Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait claimed he had instructed officials to prepare, asserting that regular maintenance had prevented major issues in recent years. However, the visible urban flooding suggests otherwise, prompting urgent calls for swift intervention.
