Mysuru: The Dr D Banerjee Centre of Excellence (DBCOE) for Polymer Science and Rubber Technology was inaugurated by Suttur Seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami on Wednesday at the SJCE campus, part of the JSS technical institutions. The centre has been set up by the Indian Rubber Institute to serve as a national hub for rubber-related training, testing, education, and hands-on skill development—especially targeting the southern region of India.

The state-of-the-art facility includes advanced labs for rubber processing, physical/chemical testing, failure analysis, rheology, reverse engineering, and tyre testing. It also features a 225-seat auditorium, digital library, communication centre, and dedicated classrooms for both theory and practical sessions.

Mysuru DC KV Lakshmikanth Reddy underlined the centre’s role in bridging academic knowledge with industrial needs. He remarked, “This facility will sharpen student readiness for real-world industry demands and could position Mysuru as a major rubber industry hub.”

Raghupati Singhania, CMD of JK Tyre & Industries, inaugurated the auditorium and highlighted how the centre supports the ‘Skill India’ initiative. “It’s a crucial step towards building a globally competitive workforce,” he added.

Also present were Dr B Suresh, Pro-Chancellor of JSSAHER; CG Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha; and Indian Rubber Institute leaders R Mukhopadhyay, VK Misra, and PK Mohamed.
