Mysuru: Mysore Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Central Government to undertake major railway infrastructure improvements in the city, including the creation of a third entry point at Mysuru Railway Station and the extension of high-speed rail connectivity to Mysuru. The proposals were submitted during a recent meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, improving station accessibility and strengthening rail connectivity for one of Karnataka’s fastest-growing urban centres.
Proposal for third entry at Mysuru Railway Station
Following his meeting with the Railway Minister, Wadiyar shared details of the discussions through a post on social media platform X.
According to the MP, a formal representation was submitted seeking approval for a third entry at Mysuru Railway Station along with comprehensive station upgradation works.
The proposed improvements are intended to increase passenger handling capacity and improve accessibility for commuters using the station. Railway authorities have been focusing on modernising major stations across the country, and Mysuru is considered an important hub due to its growing passenger traffic and strategic location in southern Karnataka.
The demand for additional access points has gained importance as passenger numbers continue to increase, particularly during holidays, festivals and tourism seasons.
Call for high-speed rail connectivity
A key highlight of the proposal was the request to extend future high-speed rail connectivity from Chennai to Mysuru.
Wadiyar urged the Railway Ministry to consider Mysuru while preparing future plans and feasibility studies for high-speed rail projects. He emphasised that the city’s economic growth, tourism potential and increasing commuter demand justify its inclusion in long-term railway expansion plans.
According to the MP, extending a high-speed rail corridor to Mysuru could significantly improve connectivity between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu while reducing travel time for passengers.
The proposal aligns with broader national efforts to expand modern rail infrastructure and improve inter-city connectivity through faster and more efficient transportation systems.
Growing importance of Mysuru
Mysuru has witnessed significant growth in recent years across sectors such as tourism, education, information technology and manufacturing. The city attracts millions of visitors annually and serves as an important commercial and cultural centre in Karnataka.
Improved railway infrastructure is viewed as essential to accommodate increasing passenger movement and support economic development. Better station facilities and enhanced connectivity could also contribute to tourism growth by making travel more convenient for visitors.
The proposal for station expansion and future high-speed rail connectivity reflects ongoing efforts to position Mysuru as a major transportation hub in the region.
Public welcomes proposal but raises concerns
The proposals have generally received a positive response from members of the public, many of whom view the move as a step towards improved connectivity and modern transportation facilities.
However, several citizens have also highlighted the need to address existing concerns alongside major infrastructure projects.
Some passengers have called for improvements in cleanliness, passenger comfort and maintenance at railway stations. Others have stressed the importance of enhancing basic amenities before introducing large-scale infrastructure expansions.
Public feedback on social media also drew attention to employment-related concerns. Some users pointed out that many apprenticeship-trained candidates associated with railway workshops continue to face limited job opportunities and urged authorities to create more employment avenues for skilled youth.
Awaiting response from Railway Ministry
The proposals submitted by the Mysuru MP are expected to be examined by the Railway Ministry as part of ongoing infrastructure planning and development initiatives.
While no official announcement has been made regarding approval of the requests, the proposals highlight the growing demand for improved railway facilities and enhanced connectivity in Mysuru.
If implemented, the projects could significantly strengthen the city’s transport infrastructure, improve passenger convenience and support future economic growth. Railway enthusiasts and commuters will now be watching closely for further developments from the Ministry regarding the proposed station upgrades and high-speed rail extension.
