Mysuru: The outskirts of Mysuru city are increasingly turning into dumping grounds, with miscreants allegedly discarding industrial waste and construction debris and setting electrical cables on fire to extract copper.
The repeated incidents have also become a challenge for fire personnel, who are frequently called to these locations to douse the flames.
Industrial ‘B’ layout becomes new dumping spot
The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had recently cleared accumulated debris from Industrial ‘A’ layout. However, miscreants have now reportedly shifted their activities to Industrial ‘B’ layout.
Thick smoke was seen emerging from the area on Thursday morning after discarded electrical cables were allegedly set on fire. Fire tenders were called to the spot and the blaze was brought under control.
Fourth fire in 10 days
The latest incident was reportedly the fourth such fire in the layout in just 10 days.
Apart from creating a fire hazard, the dumping and burning of waste is causing considerable inconvenience to commuters travelling through the area. Thick smoke from burning cables can also affect visibility for motorists passing through the affected stretch.
The repeated deployment of fire tenders has further highlighted the need for stronger action to prevent such incidents.
Action sought against offenders
Concerned authorities have been urged to identify those responsible for dumping industrial waste and burning electrical cables and initiate strict action against them.
Residents and commuters have also called for measures to prevent the area from being used as an illegal dumping ground and to ensure that the menace does not continue after waste is cleared.
