Mysuru: The Mysore Palace and Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam were illuminated in vibrant colours on Thursday night to mark 100 days of governance under Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
The special illumination was organised by the Information Department as part of the celebrations marking the completion of the first 100 days of the D.K. Shivakumar-led government. The lighting display added a festive appearance to two of the region’s most prominent landmarks.
Mysore Palace shines in Kannada flag colours
The Mysore Palace was decorated with colourful lights, creating a visual spectacle for residents and visitors. While the heritage monument is routinely illuminated on Sundays and special occasions, Thursday night’s display was distinctive for its use of colours associated with the Kannada flag.
The illumination highlighted the architectural features of the historic palace after sunset and attracted attention from tourists and members of the public. The special lighting is scheduled to continue for the next three days.
The celebrations also featured elephants parading in front of the Palace. The jumbos raised their trunks, adding to the visual appeal of the event and giving visitors an opportunity to witness a festive display against the illuminated heritage structure.
KRS Dam gets colourful makeover
The celebrations extended to Mandya district, where the KRS Dam was also illuminated.
Colourful lights were installed across different sections of the dam, transforming the structure into a glittering attraction after dark. The lighting brought a festive atmosphere to the reservoir area and drew the attention of tourists and members of the public.
The illumination of KRS Dam, along with the Mysore Palace, provided a visual representation of the government’s 100-day milestone across two major landmarks of the Mysuru-Mandya region.
Three-day illumination planned
According to the report, the special illumination will continue for three days. The Mysore Palace’s regular lighting schedule on Sundays and special occasions will therefore be supplemented by the 100-day celebrations during this period.
The lighting of the two landmarks also comes at a time when Mysuru is preparing for the upcoming Dasara season, when the city traditionally sees extensive illumination and a rise in tourist activity.
The Palace remains one of Mysuru’s biggest tourist attractions, while the KRS Dam and its surrounding Brindavan Gardens are among the region’s major visitor destinations.
100-day milestone for D.K. Shivakumar government
The illumination marks a symbolic celebration of the D.K. Shivakumar government completing 100 days in office. The government has also highlighted investment, employment, infrastructure and regional development as key areas of its early agenda.
On the 100-day milestone, Shivakumar said investment proposals worth ₹43,214 crore had been approved during the first 100 days. The government has also outlined plans involving technology centres in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Belagavi and Hubballi-Dharwad as part of its broader “Beyond Bengaluru” strategy.
The celebrations in Mysuru and Mandya therefore combined a political milestone with the illumination of two prominent cultural and tourism landmarks.
