Mysuru: The iconic Mysuru Palace will be illuminated with pink lights on Saturday night, August 30, to mark the completion of three years of the state government’s Gruha Lakshmi scheme, one of the five guarantee schemes of the Congress government.
The special illumination is being organised to commemorate the scheme’s third anniversary and highlight its focus on providing financial assistance to women heading eligible families across Karnataka.
Special pink illumination from 8 pm
According to Palace authorities, the regular weekend illumination of the Mysuru Palace will take place from 7 pm to 8 pm.
This will be followed by the special pink illumination from 8 pm to 10 pm.
The distinctive pink lighting has been planned as part of statewide celebrations marking three years of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.
The illumination is being carried out under the aegis of the Department of Information and Public Relations.
Gruha Lakshmi completes three years
The Gruha Lakshmi scheme provides Rs 2,000 per month as financial assistance to the woman head of each eligible family in the state.
The scheme is among the five guarantee schemes introduced by the Karnataka government after the Congress came to power. It is aimed at providing direct financial support to women and helping eligible beneficiaries achieve greater financial independence.
The government has planned celebrations across the state to mark three years since the implementation of the scheme.
As part of the programme, several prominent historical and government structures are being illuminated in pink.
Major landmarks join statewide celebration
Apart from the Mysuru Palace, several prominent landmarks across Karnataka will receive the special pink illumination.
These include Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, the seat of the state government, and Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.
The famed Chitradurga Fort and the Stone Chariot at Hampi are also among the heritage structures selected for the special lighting.
In coastal Karnataka, the Deputy Commissioner’s office building in Mangaluru will also be illuminated in pink.
The Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle in Belagavi is another location included in the statewide celebration.
The coordinated illumination of these landmarks is intended to visually mark the completion of three years of the welfare scheme.
Pink lights mark occasion
The use of pink lighting has been planned as a visual symbol for the celebrations surrounding the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.
The Mysuru Palace, which is regularly illuminated on weekends and during special occasions, will therefore have an additional two-hour illumination session on Saturday night.
Visitors and residents will be able to see the palace in pink between 8 pm and 10 pm, following the regular illumination between 7 pm and 8 pm.
The special lighting will add another visual attraction to the heritage landmark while marking the government’s anniversary celebrations.
The statewide programme also brings together important heritage sites, administrative buildings and public landmarks under a common theme.
With the Mysuru Palace and other prominent structures illuminated simultaneously, the government aims to mark the three-year milestone of Gruha Lakshmi across Karnataka.
