In a coordinated crackdown with Mumbai Police, the Mysuru City police apprehended four individuals — two each from Gujarat and Mumbai — for allegedly manufacturing liquid ecstasy, a prohibited synthetic drug. The operation took place at a makeshift distillation unit camouflaged inside a vehicle garage in the Narasimharaja police limits, located in the northeastern region of Mysuru.
During the late Saturday night raid, the police seized a quantity of the illicit drug, along with distillation equipment used in the production process. Acting on a credible tip-off, officers stormed the garage just after sunset, catching the suspects in the act of boiling chemical compounds to produce a crystal-like substance.
Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, confirming the arrests, said the place appeared to be a regular garage on the surface. However, it was being illegally used for narcotics production. “The suspects were creating crystal-like compounds by boiling certain chemical mixtures,” she stated, adding that an in-depth probe is ongoing to uncover local links and determine the owners of the garage.
According to insiders, liquid ecstasy is considered a party drug in several western nations. However, its production, possession, or sale is strictly prohibited in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which imposes severe penalties on offenders.
The bust highlights growing concerns about the emergence of covert drug labs in semi-urban areas and the need for inter-state intelligence coordination.
