Mysuru: With reported crime incidents increasing in Mysuru city and surrounding areas, the police department has gone on high alert and stepped up patrols, inspections and anti-drug enforcement drives. As part of a focused prevention strategy, special foot patrols led by officers have been launched across key locations from evening hours, alongside targeted raids by the City Crime Branch (CCB).
Police officials said the combined measures are aimed at crime deterrence, stronger street presence and curbing illegal drug sale and transport networks operating within city limits.
The intensified operations cover high-traffic corridors, commercial zones and identified vulnerable pockets.
Foot patrols from 6 pm to 11 pm
Mysuru police have rolled out daily foot patrols between 6 pm and 11 pm, led by senior officers and supported by station-level personnel. The patrols are part of a broader “drug-free city” initiative and general crime-prevention strategy.
Teams are moving through marketplaces, busier junctions, residential clusters and student-dominated areas to improve visibility and gather ground intelligence.
According to police sources, the objectives include:
- Deterring street-level crime
- Preventing open drug transactions
- Checking suspicious movement
- Strengthening public confidence
- Improving quick response readiness
Vehicle patrols and mobile squads are operating in coordination with foot patrol teams to widen coverage.
MDMA seized, two arrested
Mysuru police said the CCB and Mandi police conducted a joint search operation on Wednesday targeting illegal drug sale and transportation under Mandi and Udayagiri police station limits.
During the operation, two persons were arrested:
- Mohammed Kareem, resident of Mandi Mohalla
- Nishad Basha, resident of Kalyanagiri Nagar
Police seized 3.14 grams of MDMA from their possession. A criminal case has been registered and both accused have been remanded to judicial custody by the court.
Background checks show that Mohammed Kareem has five earlier cases registered at different police stations in the city. Nishad Basha is facing three cases related to theft and extortion, officials said.
Further investigation is under way to identify supply links and possible local distribution networks.
Ganja seizures in separate cases
In additional anti-drug enforcement action, CCB teams carried out separate raids that resulted in ganja seizures and more arrests.
Police reported that:
- 35 grams of ganja was seized in one case
- 550 grams of ganja was seized in another case
- Three accused persons were arrested in these operations
All three have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Officers said the raids were based on prior intelligence inputs and surveillance.
Investigators are now examining whether the seized quantities were meant for retail sale or onward transport.
Vimukti helpline for confidential tips
To encourage citizen participation in anti-drug efforts, Mysuru city police are promoting the Vimukti Police Helpline — 82779 48080.
Residents can share information regarding:
- Illegal drug sale points
- Storage locations
- Transport routes
- Consumption hotspots
- Suspected peddlers
City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said that the identity and details of informants will be kept confidential to ensure safety and build trust.
Police teams are conducting outreach sessions in schools and colleges and during community meetings to spread awareness about the helpline and legal consequences of drug offences.
Awareness and prevention focus
Apart from enforcement, the department is also focusing on preventive and educational measures. Officers are interacting with students and youth groups to highlight the risks of narcotics and the legal penalties involved.
Special emphasis is being placed on early reporting and community vigilance. Police believe that public cooperation combined with sustained patrols and raids will significantly reduce street-level drug activity.
Officials added that regular review meetings are being held to track progress of anti-drug operations and patrol coverage.
Conclusion
With stepped-up foot patrols, coordinated CCB raids and expanded public reporting channels, Mysuru police have intensified their citywide anti-drug and crime-control drive. Recent MDMA and ganja seizures and multiple arrests reflect a sharper enforcement push, as authorities aim to improve safety and move toward a drug-free urban environment.
