In a sweeping anti-drug operation, Mysuru city police launched coordinated raids on Sunday night and early Monday across various parts of the city to target the drug mafia. One person was arrested and 26 individuals were detained for allegedly possessing ganja. The crackdown began at 7 p.m. and concluded around 12:30 a.m., according to Police Commissioner Seema Latkar.

The operation started in Mandi Mohalla and extended to Udayagiri, NR Mohalla, Nazarabad, and KR Mohalla. During the drive, authorities inspected 59 godowns and questioned 35 individuals previously found selling ganja. Senior police officers actively led the raids to intensify pressure on local drug networks.

Meanwhile, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar voiced concern over rising drug abuse in the city, particularly in the Narasimharaja constituency. Alleging that some parks in the area are being named after narcotics by miscreants, he urged the state government to act decisively. “I’ve received numerous complaints about drugs being sold near colleges. This issue is not limited to a single institution,” Yaduveer stated, adding that he plans to raise the matter with the Union government.

Opposition leader R Ashoka also slammed the ruling government, expressing dismay that Maharashtra Police recently busted a drug unit in Mysuru. He criticized MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, linking the lapse to the state’s alleged failure in maintaining law and order. Ashoka further claimed the Home Department is falling short in its responsibilities.
